How it works

From weather data to a simple walk decision

WalksBuddy scores the next 12 hours from five real-time weather factors, then turns that score into a clear answer: walk now, keep it short, wait, or stay in.

The four decisions

Every hour gets scored 0–100. We translate that into one of four decisions so you never have to interpret a number.

Good now·Score 75–100
Walk confidently. Conditions are safe and comfortable.
Okay — keep it short·Score 60–74
Usable window. Shorter loop, skip the long walk.
Better to wait·Score 40–59
Not ideal now. We’ll point you to the next safe window.
Not a good time·Score Below 40
Stay in for now. Try again at the next safe window or tomorrow.

When the decision is “wait” or “not a good time,” we show the exact next safe window — not a vague “try again later.”

The Five Weather Factors

Each factor is weighted by how much it impacts your dog's safety and comfort during a walk.

Temperature

35%

The most important factor. Dogs are safest between 10–20°C. Above 30°C, pavement can burn paws.

Rain Chance

20%

Heavy rain reduces visibility and makes walks uncomfortable for both dogs and owners.

Humidity

15%

High humidity prevents dogs from cooling down through panting — the biggest hidden danger.

Wind Speed

15%

Moderate wind helps cooling. Strong gusts (30+ km/h) are uncomfortable and risky for small dogs.

UV Index

15%

High UV (6+) means intense sun. Pavement heats faster, and dogs with thin coats risk sunburn.
